I’m not a big fan of So You Think You Can Dance, but I’ll admit to watching it while it was on here at the house. One of the judges, Nigel Lythgoe, was critiquing the dances and I always listen for how the judges deliver their critiques – it’s interesting watching how they deliver the bad news.
For one dancer, Nigel felt the dance was “just ok” but the guy was so, so passionate that he just wrote it off, as the guy was clearly just on his way up the spiral.
Then, Nigel’s closing comment just hit me like a hammer:
We don’t want dancers who CAN dance.
We want dancers who HAVE to dance.
Are you working on something because you are so drawn to it that you HAVE to?
It doesn’t matter if it’s your job or a creative side project. If it is calling, pick up the phone!
