about me

My name is Andrew Hayes (but you probably already knew that) and I am a photographer and travel writer. I've travelled to all ends of the earth, from glacial peaks in New Zealand to remote villages in the British Isles. I have a strong passion for using my creative abilities to share with you my perspective on various parts of the world and give you that inspiration you need to provoke your inner muse.

I chose photography based on by accident, perhaps, on discovery a hidden talent. While I have experiemented in other mediums, behind the camera is my home. I shoot in a variety of settings and elements, but a common theme among all of these is that I want to express my perspective on the world situtation. If you ask three people about what my piece is saying, and you get three different answers, then I have done my job properly. I want to force people to take a second look at what may be an everyday situtation, or maybe a extraordinary situtation, and think about what it means to them.

I began travel writing because I always felt there was something missing from the 'typical' publications one finds. I really like to get at the heart of somewhere, to find a different slant on the experience of travel. You know how everyone always says 'oh, living there is so much different than visiting.' Why is that the case? My stories always aim to tell the real truth, from a feet-hitting-the-pavement perspective.
